Eatin'

Next up, we brought our harvest home for the processing...and the eatin'!

Washing machines are good for washing clothes, and also work well as a meat packing station. :)

I even helped process!
Hooray! Hooray! I hope I haven't taken too much credit for "our" deer...when really I was just support crew. :)
Mister N made dinner for the family!

And we celebrated my husband's fine work, and our fortunate windfall!

Killin'

Friday afternoon, after a leisurely day of fishing, napping, and magazine reading, we both went out in the evening to sneak up on the deers.

My husband wants the deers to think he looks good in red, but has no legs.

And just like that, blam! A successful hit, and a clean one at that.

Gratuitous dead deer photo.

Miss G was SO excited about our catch! She about had a heart attack. She even walked a little too close during the hanging up process.

Campin'

We were both a little light at work, so we took Friday off and headed out to further our camping and hunting adventures. The weather was hot, but glorious.

Mister N was able to do a wee bit of fly fishing, but wasn't able to convince any fishes onto his hook.

Ever seen a wiener dog smile? It looks like this. :)

The first piece of jewelry my sweet husband gave me was this sterling silver dolphin bracelet, for my 21st birthday. A LONG time ago.

After our last camping adventure, it went missing. I was VERY sad. We both turned everything inside out trying to find it. No luck.

But then, late Thursday night while setting up the tent in the dark, I spied something glimmering off the light of my headlamp. Ta-da! Dolphins!! HOORAY!

Rafting the Payette!

My husband returned safely from Montana just in time to take advantage of our invitation to raft the Payette River! Whoo-hoo! There were 11 folks and three vessels in our party.
Mister N and Captain Ron...er.... Captain Eric... "You can do it, mates. I've never seen such sailors. Not in all my born days, I ain't. Naturals. My God, everyone of you, naturals..."
I don't have a waterproof camera, I just have an old Casio that I put in a sandwich bag and it seems to keep taking whatever I give it. We call it the adventure camera.
Anyway, because of this, I could really only shoot on the flat water stretches. But here's a bit of a rapid that we successfully navigated!
The "parking lot" for our beach picnic lunch!
Because our steadfast captain kept an eye out for sharks and pirates, I was able to lie back for a bit and enjoy the float. Sleepin' on water is the best ever.
Success! SUCH a fun trip!!

Killer G Does Some Hunting of Her Own

In 2003 we drove to Drumheller, Canada. Along the way we stopped for samiches in Coeur d'Alene and let the dogs run in a small park. After a few gallops through tall grass, Mr. Beans promptly munched the head off a wee bird that couldn't escape his reach. We were sickened by his display and agreed that Beanie must never show his face in Idaho again, lest he be incarcerated for his crimes.

Last week I was sitting in the garage taking pics* when I noticed Miss G wrangled a bird. I yelled for my husband (who was closer) to stop her! Stop her!!

He did, and then went to examine the damage, and hopefully release the wee creature back into flight.

But...it was not to be.

The little fellow had fallen to a dachshund scourge like his brethren up north. Who knew these little dogs had such a taste for blood. Badgers, sure. But wee birds? Aye.

* One time I was at the pool with the girls and the clasp on my poor sister's swimsuit top broke... Our dear friends quickly reached for the towels...while I...reached for...my camera.WHAT! Journalism is in my blood!

Hiking with the Elderly

Despite recently celebrating her 15th birthday (which we neglected to remember -- don't tell her!) Miss G out-hiked both of us for nearly the entire 6+ miles we covered.

OK, the camera was NOT turned at an angle. This was the pitch of the start of the hike.

Miss G wondering what's taking her girl so long!
We made it to the top!
My husband loved it when, at a rest break where I removed my boots, I tied my sock around her head like she was Fred Flintstone with a toothache. ;)
During the last two miles the old lady was pooped out and seemed happier to have a ride.
She earned a nap and was pleased to hit the hay early after our adventure. :)

Recon in the Woods!

As I mentioned, SCHOOL IS OUT!! For WEEKS!! I feel like I'm just now starting to come down to a functional level.

With all this free time and no need for Internet access, we decided to head off into the woods for a bit of hunting reconnaissance.

We do best in a non-campground setting. :)
Ahhh. Sunshine beside the Crooked River. What more could a girl ask for!
We were up (relatively) early to go spy on the deers, pre-hunting season.

Proof that we were near where the deer had been hanging out...

One of the four specimens we spied over our recon weekend!

Marmot Float!

In honor of the end of softball, the Marmots celebrated with a float down the Boise River. My panoramas never work as well here as I hope, but if you click, you get a better idea of our hosts' sweet spread.
Loading up the "linen truck" with folks and boats.
Jon and John in their respective vessels.
A mid-float break for resting and refilling the water guns!
Post-float barbecue and games! FINALLY I find a game I'm good at!
Coach Jeb 'splainin' why he's qualified to be the official Bocce Ball measurer. Go Marmots!

Lyle 2009!

YAAAAY!! School's finally out! As a little bit of an early celebration, we were off to another Lyle Lovett show at the botanical gardens. I think it wasn't as good as last year, but it was a fun night out.
I love that Lyle and his large band are always so well dressed.
You can have my girl, but don't touch my hat.
